There are few things that irritate me more than seeing a guy whose well dressed (shirt, pants/suit, shoes) but is wearing a coat that is either the complete opposite of the rest of his ensemble or is in such shabby condition that it deserves nothing less than to be burned on sight. Maybe you're the type of guy who finds tailored topcoats and trenches a bit too stuffy, I get it.
